Liverpool are said to be another admirer of Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz. The German player has been making waves with since making his senior debut back in 2020. This season, he got his first taste of the Champions League with Xabi Alonso’s side. By the time they crashed out in the round of 16 at the hands of rivals Bayern Munich, he scored six goals and got one assist.
It’s no surprise that the football world has been keeping an avid eye on his progress. Leverkusen are eager to extend Wirtz’s contract until 2028 while the biggest teams in Europe vie to tempt him away.
Liverpool are counted among the interested teams, but they will have to get in line behind Manchester City and Bayern Munich. Fueling these rumours is the potential exit of Darwin Núñez this summer, which would leave a hole that needs filling in Arne Slot’s midfield. It’s also assumed that after two very quiet transfer windows, Liverpool might be looking to spend this summer.
If they are, it’ll take quite a lot of gain Wirtz’s signature. The player is said to be valued at a whopping €120-130 million. Bayern are said to already be in the process of drafting a proposal as an opening salvo for their rivals. Manchester City are said to be looking for a world class replacement for the departing Kevin de Bruyne. And, of course, Leverkusen want to secure his services for the foreseeable future.
Florian Wirtz is a name that will continue to come up into the lead up to this summer, up until his future is decided one way of the other.
