The 2025 Ballon d’Or nominees have been announced today and there are officially four Liverpool players who made the cut to be included on the 30-man shortlist for football’s top individual honour. Leading the way and one of the overall favourites for the award is Mohamed Salah, and he’s joined by Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister, and new signing Florian Wirtz.
Meanwhile, goalkeeper Alisson Becker is one of ten finalists for the Yachine Trophy as the game’s top shot stopper, and manager Arne Slot is one of five finalists for Manager of the Year. That means that of the 30 shortlisted players, 13.3% are Liverpool nominees—and amongst the 45 total nominees for the three top individual prizes, 13.3% are also Liverpool’s.
Alisson previously won the Yachine Trophy in 2019, its inaugural edition and will be counted as one of the favourites for this year’s competition. For the manager prize, Slot will deservedly be near the top of the list but it’s likely most will likely count Paris Saint-Germain manager Luis Enrique as the favourite for a Champions League winning campaign in 2024-25.
Along with Salah, PSG’s Champions League triumph also helps push Ousmane Dembele into the mix as a favourite for the Ballon d’Or along with Barcelona duo Lamine Yamal and Raphina. Given the award is for a year rather than season the prize could yet be determined by how 2025-26 starts. Yamal and Rahpina both being favourites could also lead to vote splitting.
Liverpool have also been nominated alongside Barcelona, Botafogo, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain as club of the year.
