The claims in Spain have the La Liga champions making a move for Liverpool’s Colombian winger Luis Diaz.

Almost from the day he joined Liverpool in January of 2022, there has been a steady thrum of rumours linking the player with a move to Barcelona. About the only thing that changes is whether those rumours involve claims that the La Liga side are interested in Diaz or that Diaz is dreaming of them.

Over the past few months, perhaps for the first time, those rumours seemed to completely dry up. On the Liverpool side, there was chatter about a new contract in the works. On the Barcelona side, the seemingly perpetually broke but big spending Catalans had Raphinha looking a Ballon d’Or candidate in his position.

Perhaps it was a detente we never should have expected to last. So here we are. Both Liverpool and Barcelona have won their leagues with time to spare. Neither has meaningful football left to play. And all attention has begun to turn to summer transfers, with Sport out front to revive the Diaz affair.

As they have it, Diaz isn’t just a potential target—he’s the target. The number one target. It will be a difficult deal to complete, perhaps, what with Barcelona seeming as though they’re perpetually broke, but Sport do at least claim that all the involved parties know what it will take and that deadlines are in place.

From a Liverpool point of view, that suggests any deal would have to get done relatively early in the summer—and Liverpool have already signalled Diaz isn’t a player they would look to sell. Still, it’s suggested €85M (£72M) would convince the Reds to deal the 28-year-old Colombian. Only time will tell.
