Federico Chiesa’s move to England hasn’t gone as hoped and he now could be heading straight back to Serie A this summer.

Having cost Liverpool just £10M last summer to sign him from Juventus, bringing in Federico Chiesa may not have panned out but it was always a reasonable gamble on a player who a few short years ago was widely regarded as Italy’s top winger.

Having turned 27 this season and making just five Premier League appearances to date, though, it seems equally clear that it’s best for everyone involved to move on quickly now that it’s clear the move hasn’t worked out and with the player seemingly not in manager Arne Slot’s long-term plans.

To that end, most assume a return to Serie A is most likely as the player seeks to get his career back on track. On that front, CalcioMercato claim Napoli as Chiesa’s most likely summer landing spot, with AC Milan also said to hold interest in the winger.

No potential fee is mentioned, but from a Liverpool point of view one would imagine recouping their investment and getting the player’s wages off the books would be sufficient for the Reds to agree a deal, and for Chiesa next season might well be a make or break one when it comes to his career.
