Pre-Match

Okay, first thing’s first. I’m drunk. I celebrated the good news of getting permanent residency here in Denmark, so if I don’t even reach my usual level of half-assed commentary, sorry not sorry. Anyway, football or something. Dom Szoboszlai (Svolazi) is starting out left-wing, a dangerous place for any Hungarian these days.

First Half

So I guess Jones is on the left and Svolazi is in the middle of the park.

It’s a good start for the white-clad Reds. The visitors have won a few corners and even crated a few speculative efforts. They also clearly believe they can force Villa into mistakes playing out of the back, and have already caught them out once in the opening 10 minutes.

Svolazi had a great chance to open the scoring after Jones did well to slip him in on goal, but he wasn’t able to beat Martinez 1 v 1.

Salah opens the scoring after a Villa back pass excellently finds Jota, who drives into the box and squares it for Mo who does not miss from there!

Villa equalize after Liverpool fail to clear a set piece. Really frustrating after an otherwise good first half.

And to add insult to injury Watkins scores from a header right at the death.

Liverpool have conceded 2 goals on 3 shots worth a total of 0.54 xG.

Second Half

Liverpool once again started the half well, and seem to bringing back of the old Klopp chaosball, pressing like mad all over the pitch and trying to force the issue.

And Alexander-Arnold equalizes! Liverpool win the ball back in their own defensive third and break. Salah finds Trent on the edge of the box, and the Scouser on the team hits it hard. Martinez gets a palm to it, but can’t keep it out.

Slot makes his first changes with half an hour to go, bringing off Jota and Trent, and bringing on Darwin and Conor Bradley.

Darwin nearly gets the go-ahead goal straight away, but puts the effort just wide. He then has a chance to play it around the keeper just a few minutes later, but can’t quite manage. There’s a winner out there, if we can keep our cool.

Slot makes a last roll of the dice, bringing on Luis Diaz for Alexis Mac Allister.

Bradley goes off with a knock, and Quansah comes on in his place. Tonight is going great.

Final Thoughts

That was frustrating. Another two points dropped, and unlike last week at Goodison, Liverpool deserved to be walking out with more. Regardless, the gap is now 8 points and hopefully Liverpool can get back to their winning ways against City.
