It hasn’t been a great season for Bajcetic on loan at RB Salzburg and there have been rumours of a recall and short-term move to Spain.
Last summer’s move from Liverpool to Austria’s RB Salzburg was a disaster for long-time Jürgen Klopp assistant Pepijn Lijnders, with the Dutch coach dismissed after just 29 games in charge of the floundering perennial title favourites.
It wasn’t much better for a pair of players he brought with him, as the Austrian club signed forward Bobby Clark in a £10M deal and Stefan Bajcetic on loan. Of the trio, Bajcetic with 18 appearances so far and 890 minutes logged has had the best run of it.
Still, best is a long way from good in this occasion, and so it’s not been surprising to see talk of a Bajcetic loan recall this month, with speculation the 20-year old midfielder could spend the second half of the 2024-25 season on loan in Spain.
Previous chatter had centred on Real Betis, but that was dismissed and quickly faded. Now, though, local Spanish reports have Las Palmas in the mix to bring Bajcetic to La Liga before the January transfer window slams shut shortly.
According to Atlántico Hoy, at least, local Las Palams—currently 15th in La Liga but only three points clear of safety and scrambling to bolster their survival hopes—are favourites, but Celta Vigo could also be in the mix to bring Bajcetic to Spain.
Whether it’s at his current home in Austria or at a new one in La Liga, then, our only hope is that Bajcetic gets plenty of minutes and gets his fledgeling career back on track after a few injury-hit seasons and this year’s struggles for minutes.
