The Liverpool midfielder was an important second half sub, chipping in with an assist to help seal the win.
When Curtis Jones came on as a second half substitute against Bournemouth, Liverpool were clinging to a 1-goal lead. Arsenal fans (and others wishing for Liverpool’s demise) could’ve been forgiven for thinking that The Reds might drop some points yesterday, but it was not to be, and Jones was one of the key players to make sure Liverpool went home with all three points.
“It was an important game,” Jones said to the club’s official website.
“We always have to win games, of course we do, there’s teams that are close in the league that are winning games as well. I think that every game is important. Of course they’re a team that’s in great form and the style of play is hard to play against. But we did well and came away with the win, so that’s the important thing.”
Bournemouth have certainly punched above their weight this season, and had some significant chances to score first and/or equalize before Jones’ assist helped make it 2-0.
It was another big hurdle cleared for Arne Slot’s men, one that takes them one step (and one match week) closer to securing their 20th league title. Now Liverpool fans can relax and, somewhat ironically, root for Manchester City to get something today.
