A look back at the key moments in Liverpool’s disappointing loss to Tottenham in League Cup action.
Tottenham Hotspur 1 – 0 Liverpool Team
Spurs: Bergvall 86’
Pre-Match
Last time out these two sides collectively scored 9 goals. Double digits or get the fuck out.
First Half
Scary moment early on after Spurs player Bentacur went down in the box and was required to be stretched off after a long time apparently unconscious on the pitch. The mood in the stadium and on the pitch is understandably subdued after that. And now Quansah is off with a knock, replaced by Endo. Glad this semifinal is two full matches, personally.
The first half was definitely a half of football that happened.
Liverpool looked better as the half progressed, but created shockingly little against a side that loves conceding multiple goals.
Second Half
Ali very nearly decided to give away a soft one, but was bailed out by Van Dijk and some shitty finishing by Spurs. Elsewhere, Liverpool continue to look pretty disjointed and not at all like the side that tore Spurs to shreds just a few weeks ago.
Slot makes his first subs non-injury-related subs on the hour mark. Darwin, Diaz, and Trent all come on for Jota, Gakpo, and Bradley. The Reds have looked better since the subs, though still lacking composure in the final third.
Former Liverpool player Dominic Solanke is the first one to put a ball into the back of the net, but it is chalked off for offside after a VAR review.
Welp, no chalking that off. Solanke does well to hold it up and lay it off for Bergvall to finish. Even more injustice, as Bergvall probably should’ve been sent off for his challenge on Tsimikas a moment earlier, for which Kostas had not yet returned to pitch yet.
Final Thoughts
Welp, Liverpool have 90 minutes to turn this around at Anfield.
